the best of // milan men’s fall 2012.

Its great that the menswear business has been growing and expanding, especially the past few seasons. Shows at Pitti Immagine and men’s street style have been getting extra special attention [with good reason], which can only mean one thing: brands have to up the design. My favorite 10 collections from Milan for Fall 2012 include Bottega Veneta, Burberry Prorsum, Calvin Klein Collection, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Jil Sander, Missoni, Neil Barrett, Valentino and Z Zegna. Why these 10? They’ve updated staple mens clothing [ie. suits, button down shirts, coats/jackets and accessories] for the modern man.  [[ Z Zegna was an absolute delight. The colors, silhouettes and proportions were spot on for me. ]] [[ Bottega Veneta: Thomas Maier took suits to another level with cutout shapes and borders…

paris magic : viktor & rolf.

Paris is the capital of fashion. Not only is Paris Fashion Week about the design of clothing but also about theatre and drama. Known for their artistic, creative, concept-driven shows, Viktor & Rolf had their models walk through the skirts of performers Brigitte, who performed above the runway. Viktor & Rolf made a statement with their cohesively threaded collection for SS2012. Although the oversized stitching was overpresent, I like that the duo played up the doll theme. A memorable show for my first Paris Fashion Week, wouldn’t you say? Brigitte – Ma Benz by efé    [[ photography by yours truly ]]

My partner Hena and I participated in Closetista‘s “Style Gone Social” contest and we went through three rounds of challenges and came out on top. A full recap will be coming soon but I wanted to express my sincerest appreciation. And if you haven’t watched our video yet, check it out on themodman.tv: Another season of New York Fashion Week is a day away so look forward to news about Spring 2012. nyfw fall 2011 : doilies.

[[ marchesa, l'wren scott, jason wu, oscar de la renta, prabal gurung x2, marchesa, via style.com ]] Who knew that doilies would be the inspiration behind so many pieces this season ? : P I’m obviously not alluding that the designers all looked at a doiley and said, “Aha! I must use this in my collection!”. The intricate details conjure an air of romanticism, a theme that was quite prevalent for the fall season.
