nyfw fall 2011 : full sweep.

Posted on March 13th, 2011

[[ organic by john patrick, alexander wang, dennis basso, jeremy laing, prabal gurung, rebecca minkoff, max azria, milly, via style.com ]] Even though full skirts and dresses are a big hit for fall, they are perfect for the spring as well, especially when you throw a layer over it. Effortless! Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil spotted some already during this past fashion month:

nyfw fall 2011 : down with it.

[[ altuzarra, thakoon, reed krakoff, alexander wang, dkny, alexander wang, michael kors, via style.com ]] I’d say its fairly difficult to keep completely warm and stylish during winter. Down/quilted jackets are pretty much the only foolproof way to keep wind out, but North Face and cocoon sleeping-bag coats aren’t the most fashion forward pieces (although arguabe classics in their own right, strictly for utilitarian purposes of course). For Fall 2011, designers like Alexander Wang, DKNY and Michael Kors have taken down to another level.

[[ bill blass, ohne titel, nanette lepore, carolina herrera, douglas hannant, cynthia rowley // l'wren scott, gregory parkinson, oscar de la renta, max azria, l'wren scott, philosophy ]] Aside from the fact that my shoe photoshopping is a complete fail.. lets focus on the shoes themselves. These Mary Janes totally made me think of Little Bo Peep, except that she’s all grown up! Check out these for-adults Bo Peep Mary Janes, which come in all sorts of colors, heights and materials. They even come in peep-toe versions.

nyfw fall 2011 : going green.

[[ diane von furstenberg, milly, marc jacobs, oscar de la renta, cynthia rowley, marc by marc jacobs, via style.com ]] Going green, or eco, is more than just a trend, it is slowly working to become an industry trend. Using recycled materials and developing new fibers, focusing on material origins, creating quality goods and supporting sustainable and ethical labor practices are just a few ways to focus on the environment — not just the natural but the economic and humane as well. Although eco hasn’t penetrated deep into the runway, there has been great progress. Here are a few of my favorite green looks.

nyfw fall 2011 : shady oranges.

From blood orange to burnt, all the way to pastel orange shades, it seemed like almost every designer sent out some form of this color (whether it was full on orange like Michael Kors or spots here and there, like Peter Som and Oscar de la Renta). How will you be adding orange to your wardrobe?
